Cardinals are flying Ohio High School Hockey Dec 30th rankings

Capital Conference White Division St. Charles Cardinals are FLYING.  Standing at 14 W 2 L and 1 Tie in conference play.  The Cardinals of the Southern Comfort division just went 3-0-1 at the Warrior Shoot Out.  Beating Jerome 5-1, Northview 5-2, Hudson 2-0 and a Tie with Walsh at 2-2.  Given none of these teams are currently in the top ten, but the Cardinals now are!  This is a team that may be the replacement for Olentangy Orange, down south.  Rising up out of the White division to attend states.  52 Capital Conference Goals for and only 8 against = respect, anywhere.

Bowling Green Bobcats.  Wow, they rise up again!  Win their Mr. Spots tournament, downing the St. Francis Knights again.  Again with a 6-3 score!  That makes three tournament Championship games, in Three tournaments this season.  This is a team with an identity, a team with confidence and is the club with the most storied winning tradition in Northwest Ohio.
 GAME OF THE WEEK
So now its on!  ST. Johns Titans @ Bowling Green Bobcats Saturday January 4th, 8pm BGSU ice arena.  The NW Ohio conference battle of #1 in State, and District against #2 in District 4 in State.  Prediction this is a tough one numerically its St. Johns 4-2.  Gut says BG 3-2 OT.  So Im going with my Gut.  Bobcats, at home take the win!

So whats happening in Cleveland?  A slug fest.  Lake Catholic and St. Ignatius just keep rolling!  Neither giving an inch, neither showing any signs of letting up.  Its like WW 1, both entrenched in the top two spots in Cleveland and 2,3 state.

The After Christmas Sale

The after Christmas sale.

Up in Traverscity Ohio's#1 Ranked Toledo St. Johns delt a can of ass whoop to Michigan's Midland, 10-2  scoring was fast, and often.  The yesterday the Titans took one on the chin.  Playing University-Ligette, the State of Michigan's 10th ranked team, which is home to Two MR Hockey Michigan candidates ( Players that undoubtedly go on the NAHL or USHL and play NCAA d1, in Michigan.  As sadly BGSU discovered after making an early commitment to a MI HS, not an OHIO Player...funny how allegiances work out.) loosing a 2-0 contest.
more scores and updates to follow.

evening additions:
Bowling Green and St Francis now stand at one win each.  While Bowling Greens victory was league victory over the knights and has more substance.  The Knights recent victory show development and momentum.  The two are likely to see each other again sunday am.  Speaking of momentum...the Wildcats (Sylvania Northview) continue to just spiral down and out.  A hard fought victory over St. Charles and big loss to Walsh have Sylvania etched in the bedrock of mediocrity.

More from the world of inconsistency.  The Wildcats ( the Ignatius variety) got beaten by Olentangy Orange, then came out to wallop Shaker 11-1.  Lake Catholic is stumbling about as well landing a tie.  A 3, 3 tie with funky cold Medina.  University School is a shoe in for the finals at the Eagle classic, as only benders are present, so it will be just a feel good moment for the prepers....great scheduling, just great.

The night beofre Christmas, December 24 2013 High School Hockey Rankings

Twas the night before Christmas when all through the rink
Not a player was stirring, not even those who stink
The gear was hung on the lockers with care
In hopes State titles soon would be there.

The players were nestled all along the bench
While visions of goal celies danced in their heads.
And Coach in his ascot, and I in my jacket
Had just settled on the rankings for a midseason whacket.
No ties this week
1. Toledo St. Johns ( 0)
2. Lake Catholic (0)
3. St. Ignatius (+1)
4.  Bowling Green (-1)
5. U.S  (-1) OT L to Rocky River at Thornton Park
6. St. Eds ( +4) not previously ranked
7. Toledo St. Francis (-2)
8. Rocky River (-1)
9. Dublin Coffman (+1) Not previously ranked

Items to Note
First time in as far I know ever, Sylvania Northview did not even win a game at Padua.
Toledo St. Johns is out performing both 2011 Toledo ST. Francis and 2010 ST. Ignatius championship teams.
Best lake Catholic team ever.

Most Improved teams BOWLING GREEN and LAKE CATHOLIC
Biggest Surprise- Sylvania Northviews implosion and inability to win

What to expect in the second half
Toledo St. Johns to remain atop the Northwest Ohio and Ohio rankings.  Heated battle between Toledo ST Francis and Bowling Green for the second slot.
Lake and Ignatius to remain the top two in Cleveland with again a likely surprise ending in the playoffs.

When it comes to State Title games and attendance to venue size the state kindly provides this view.
Nation Wide holds (The VOID)  18500 The staff works agresively and hard to ensure fans are stacked into the sections they need to fill for tv time, with an average of 13,000 empty seats its a very quite place, far out of the way of main stream Ohio Hockey and the States Championship teams.
Bowling Green holds 6,000 Brooklyn both had average attendances at near capacity
The State will contiue to dictate hockey untill YOU tell them to change. Email
Steve Neil
In your words politely demand they end the State Title game at Nation Wide and return To Bowling Green and Brooklyn.  Demand they establish to Titles for the two clearly identifable levels of State play.  Demand they end their association with hockey federation rules and join USA hockey.  Demand the State Champions get to advance to USA Hockey HS nationals.

Merry Christmas

Toledo St. Johns likely to win Padua

The Titans are taking care of business and to any and all who doubted or had any doubts.  You can doubt no more.  The 2013-14 Titans are making a case for the States best team ever.
Rolling over St. Ignatius 4-0, and rolling over Lake Catholic 4-0.  Should the Titans just take care of business and play every game they will be going all the way.  The Titans play St. Eds today.

Sylvania Northview lost to Padua.  Then to St. Eds 3-2 Illustrating just how much this club is struggling defensively and with consistency.  The Padua and St. Eds games were games they needed to win. Going 0-3 is the end result.  Yet in the 3-2 loss to Eds, Northview racked up the PIM like a prepper stocks band-aids.  So this morning against Ignatius they bench goal scorers and keep the penalty goons on the ice and get shut out against St Ignatius 5-0.  Understandable the sounds of double standards and favoritism before team and wining.  No sign of team chemistry or leadership insight, nor is any sign of competitive improvement.

The opposite of Sylvania Northview are the Knights.  They have done well as expected and had nice 5-1 win over Padua.   This team is going to battle hard to the end every day.  Every player playing for the team and not self, coaches that have a plan, and coach to it, regardless of name, but based on ability.

Holiday Tournaments and projections

Its Christmas for the love of God, so you should damn well be calling them Christmas Tournaments.  Yet Christmas was not even a holiday in early America.  It was in fact outlawed.  Should you have resided in Boston and been festive you would have been fined five shillings, or about 250$ by today's standards.  Christmas is not a christian holiday.  The Puritans who founded this great nation knew this fact, and had far closer ties and reasoning than we of today.  The upper classes in ancient Rome celebrated Dec. 25 as the birthday of the sun god Mithra. The date fell right in the middle of Saturnalia, a month long holiday dedicated to food, drink, and revelry, and Pope Julius I is said to have "chosen" that day to celebrate Christ's birth as a way of co-opting the pagan rituals. Beyond that, the Puritans considered it historically inaccurate to place the Messiah's arrival on Dec. 25. They thought Jesus had been born sometime in September.  Yet when you look at the varieties of calendars and extrapolate from the dates associated with the John the Baptist you land on or about the 15th of October.  "Are you seeing why it makes sense to be non-denominational" each religion was neck deep in a power struggle, using propaganda to change their story, so much so that you dont know what is up or down...this is in large part why commoners were not allowed to own bibles or read them, so the story could be controlled and thus the people.  In the same way Government has side steeped the US Constitution today, via random acts of bizarre interpretation.  Where its is easy to read, and comprehend the simple document.  Think of the elected class like this, the President is the Pope, senators are Patriarch Bishops who were supposed to Dioceses Bishops (ie appointed by state legislatures, so they represented the views of their state FIRST), but are instead  in line order for the POPE ie president to have greater power, now voted on by the people who are grossly mislead via national influences.  The Congress are the Major Archbishops, but they are supposed to be the Patriarch Bishops and the the supreme court is well...just a total mess as none of them can read simple English, and are more akin to the guy who tortured the people in the inquisition than any one of education. Yet what is of great interest here, is that  History shows us in statistics that schools were less violent, more tolerant and more nurturing when our educators were free of the Atheist State.  So while the courts first failure on the Separation of Church state issue, was to even weigh in, as that act alone means a violation in the form of a ruling will establish a belief system as a state endorsed religion. Quite the Paradox...yet another fine example of out of control government, just as exorbitantly high regulatory standards on manufacturing have taken clean manufacturing, quality jobs, and forced them over seas, where there are No pollution controls, and now even more manufacturing of goods.  But we can all feel good.  We are not the ones who doing the polluting.  Are we?   Further my fellow Ohio'ians you need to be reminded the1997  Supreme Court Ruled 4-3 in the DeRolph v. State case that the current use of collecting personal property tax to fund public schools was UNCONSTITUTIONAL and that a remedy needed to be found.  So here we sit, 2013 ending and a 1997 ruling has not yet been enforced and school boards keep tossing out UNCONSTITUTIONAL property tax levy upon levy.  Levies that should have to be proposed individually on each budget item at the very least, one for benefits, one for wages, one for facility repairs, one for busing, one for athletics one of educational supplies etc...  its only reasonable and quite simple to take the existing amount of dollars and a fix that to city income tax.  So while its by very definition illegal, extortion, preventing pure ownership of your land and home.  It goes on unenforced, and criminal....interesting.
This Christmas I encourage all of you to not ever look to government for answers, the only ones they have are those that take your liberty, and freedom, only to increase their power over you. Take back your rights,  and a good first step is calling your representative and supporting Ohio's Constitutional Cary Law.  A law that fully restores your right to keep and bare arms, what ever you want however you want, free of permit and ENDS THE USE OF UNSAFE SIGNS THAT DO NOT STOP CRIMINALS OR PREVENT MASS MURDER.
Then turn off the tv, turn off the phone.  Sit and talk with your families, play board games, go sledding, make some gifts for neighbors, or invite them in.  Make this Christmas about being a proud American...and watch the world Jr championships :)
Now back to hockey,

So as I look at the Padua CHRISTMAS line up
Sylvania Northview looks to go 2-1 beating Padua, loosing to Ignatius and beating St eds but loosing in consolation to Ignatius.
St. Ignatius, this is a tough draw, but Im saying they to go 2-1 loosing to St Johns, beating NV, Beating St. Francis. Ignatius beats Northview in Consolation game.
Lake Catholic 3-0 beats Findlay, beats St. Johns, Beats Liberty
Toledo St Johns goes 2-1 and wins Championship over Lake Catholic, after loosing to Lake in round robin
St. Eds 1-2 losing to St Francis, beating Liberty, losing to Northview
Padua 1-2 with losses to Northview and St. Johns win or tie Findlay
Olentangy Liberty best out come 1-2 worst 0-3
St Francis 2-1
Findlay 1-2

Bowling Green has a good shot of wining Thorton Park Christmas Tourney this year.
Teams are Hudson, Mentor, Shaker, Strongsville, Brekville, North Olmsted and Rocky River.
Top three are Bowling Green, Shaker and Rocky River.
I see a BG over Hudson, BG over Shaker and BG over Rocky in a final  BG just needs to take care of Business.

Have fun, be merry, treat others as you yourself want to be treated and have a wonderful Christmas break!

Ohio High School Hockey Rankings Dec 16th

What a wild, snowy weekend of hockey!  As the saying goes, the cream rises to the top.  That is exactly what we are seeing this season.  Things are starting to take shape, and are following what we were assuming.

Shaker and Rocky River tie each other.  We knew and know they are the dominate teams in whats become their new home of a division and will battle each other hard.  Yet playing just softies is not going to do them any favors, as we saw U.S gun them down like a bunch of taliban raiders, in a 8-1 rout.

Shattuck St. Marys is a name for many that rings hockey.  As one of the top prep  schools for hockey in the Nation out side of New England it does, and as St. Ignatius learned playing not their storied prep team, not their Midget major AAA, or Minor AAA, not even the Bantam AAA but their AA team and lost a nail biter 2-1 in OT.  Walsh lost to the same Shattuck club 5-0,  then lost to Culvers Varsity A team 5-3  and lost to Gilmour 2-1 in OT, and beat Prairie Ridge handily.  Gilmour Lost Glenn brook 6-0 and lost to Shattuck as well 7-3.  Not a good showing for Ohio VS the SHattuck rookies.

The Crazy Train  however was in NW Ohio.  An important look at BG was lost however due to that games cancellation due to lots of snow, and drifting conditions on Saturday.  BG clobbered Troy, taking care of business they needed to 8-0, being consistent.  The story of the weekend is Toledo St Johns.  The TITANS scored fifteen goals in their two games Vs Northview and St. Francis.  8 and 7 respectively. They did surrender 5, three of which came after the Wildcats pulled goalie Marsh, when he surrendered his 6th of the contest in the 2nd period.  That seemed to potentially spark the Wildcats who scored 3 in a row over 5 min in the second ending the period training 6-3.  The Wildcats just are not playing well in the defensive zone in this down year not having developed JV players, or lost recruiting battles to the private schools.  Anyway you slice it, at this point they could get creative, but creativity alone will not suffice.  More likely to succeed is Toledo St Francis.  While they were slain as well by the Titans 7-2, they have a better shot at making some defensive adjustments, but they are as is BG young, and likely to be the key players next year.  This is St. Johns year to win states, at this point I am Confident in predicting St. Johns will represent at states in the politically correct championship, where everyone is a winner...yea...lol.  Likely to face a strong Lake Catholic squad....maybe Ignatius...slight shot for US ...the play offs are a GRUELING test of endurance...better yet would be if the Regular season champions got a bye and number two played a best of three against number three then played the season champs in a best of 3 the following weekend....that would be interesting....or what if the number two in Cleveland hosted the number two from the NW in a best of three, and the number 3's played in Toledo...all kinds of competition based ways to play things vs PC which just SUCK.

In the Capital Conference Dublin Coffman got fired up and bested Jerome, but its all Jerome if they play every game as they can.

December 11 th St Ignatius and Lake Catholic

St. Ignatius and Lake Catholic played 3 periods of hockey.  Those 3 periods were not enough.  Now while we predicted a 3-2 final, with Lake Catholic on top.  St Ignatius opened the scoring, and established a dominate lead in the second period.  Whats fun about this is the line of younger brothers opened the scoring.  Whitney, and Speallacy set up a Younger Geither.  Making it almost possible to cut and paste stories from a few years ago.  The Second period evolved in to a shooting gallery.  Well if you asked Lake Catholic goalie Denner, he would tell Ignatius had more guns, or at least guys willing to fire the puck.  I had 45 shots counted, the registered count was 52 for St. Ignatius and a scant 22 for Lake.  So after the period opens with that first Ignatius goal only two min later they netted another this time by Whitney.  Lake Catholics Piazza answered cutting the Ignatius lead to 2-1 but the Ignatius Wildcats roared back down the ice and this time Yarcousko scored for the Wildcats, 3-1.  The three min latter Mazanec scored for the Ignatius Wildcats. 4-1.  As the game approached the final min of the 2nd period Piazza scored his scores his second of the night, to end the second period trailing by 2 goals.
The Third period was one with Ignatius playing patiently and safely.  A strategy that was working quite well, a strategy that allowed them still plenty of scoring chances, only to be denied some solid goal tending.  The line of Turk Magruder and Piazza scored again with just over 9 min played in the session.  The Goal going to Turk.  The score standing at 4-3.  Again with final min of play approaching Piazza scores the games final goal, yet another 5 hole goal for his Hat Trick, for the tie.

2. St. Francis
2. Sylvania Northview

St. Johns and Northview square off this Friday night.  It is an interesting match-up, beyond the divisional rivalry implications.  Northview has been struggling defensively, especially when #1 D man Carter is in the box.  While St. Johns is able to out posses everyone, they have difficulty finding the twine, and could have double their scoring to date.  Both St. Johns and Northview had their difficulties beating Findlay. Northview is the home team and give them the nood to win a 2-1 OT game.  The Computer however ....says diferently
Toledo St. Johns 4  Northview 2

A day remembered

December 7th 2013, Pearl Harbor Day.  Just 3 short years away from the 75th anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack, on the United States that left 2400 men, women, children dead, another 1178 injured.

4 Battle ships sunken, another 4 Battle ships badly damages.  3 heavy cruisers damaged, 3 destroyers sunk and 2 support vessels sunken.  The attack that brought the United States into World War 2.  A War that saw at its end 60,000,000 people die, 2.5% of the worlds population at that time.  On Dec 6th the USA had an estimated population of 131,031,000.  The ravages of war saw the United States loose 418,000 souls.
Why on a hockey blog?  I am grateful, for their sacrifices.  Sacrifices that if they had not been made, life as we know it would not be possible.  As we approach this the 75th aniversary those men and women of the greatest generation are in their twighlight.  1.9 BILLION men and women fought in the great war.  By current accounting there are but a scant million remaining. By 2022 it is believed none will remain.  We need to keep this memory each year, and give thanks to those fought for freedom.

December 7th scores

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Eastern Hockey League has announced its Players of the Week for December 2-8, 2013.  Left to Right:  Josh Victor, Spencer Landry, Zach Felser.

DEFENSIVE:  Josh Victor, Connecticut Oilers
The 1994 birth-year defenseman from Killeen, Texas, played his usual hard-hitting style of defense as the Oilers gained a road split with Wilkes-Barre this past weekend.  The 6-4, 205-pounder tallied his first point of the season with an assist on Saturday.
GOALTENDER:  Spencer Landry, Hartford Jr. Wolfpack
The 1993 birth-year netminder from New Hartford, N.Y., kicked away 75 of 77 shots this past weekend as the Wolfpack claimed a pair of hard-fought road victories over Walpole and Applecore.  Landry has won four of his last five games and given up only seven goals during that stretch.
OFFENSIVE:  Zach Felser, Philadelphia Little Flyers
The 1994 birth-year forward from Sylvania, Ohio, capped a seven-point weekend by tallying five assists on Sunday -- the Little Flyers came from a 4-1 deficit to tie the Rockets 5-5 with Felser helping on all five goals.  He chipped in a goal and assist Saturday as the Little Flyers topped the Titans 6-2.
