St. Ignatius and Lake Catholic played 3 periods of hockey. Those 3 periods were not enough. Now while we predicted a 3-2 final, with Lake Catholic on top. St Ignatius opened the scoring, and established a dominate lead in the second period. Whats fun about this is the line of younger brothers opened the scoring. Whitney, and Speallacy set up a Younger Geither. Making it almost possible to cut and paste stories from a few years ago. The Second period evolved in to a shooting gallery. Well if you asked Lake Catholic goalie Denner, he would tell Ignatius had more guns, or at least guys willing to fire the puck. I had 45 shots counted, the registered count was 52 for St. Ignatius and a scant 22 for Lake. So after the period opens with that first Ignatius goal only two min later they netted another this time by Whitney. Lake Catholics Piazza answered cutting the Ignatius lead to 2-1 but the Ignatius Wildcats roared back down the ice and this time Yarcousko scored for the Wildcats, 3-1. The three min latter Mazanec scored for the Ignatius Wildcats. 4-1. As the game approached the final min of the 2nd period Piazza scored his scores his second of the night, to end the second period trailing by 2 goals.
The Third period was one with Ignatius playing patiently and safely. A strategy that was working quite well, a strategy that allowed them still plenty of scoring chances, only to be denied some solid goal tending. The line of Turk Magruder and Piazza scored again with just over 9 min played in the session. The Goal going to Turk. The score standing at 4-3. Again with final min of play approaching Piazza scores the games final goal, yet another 5 hole goal for his Hat Trick, for the tie.
